2:00pm, One World Many Voices -- World Festival of Sacred Music at the Warner Grand . - $15 ($10 seniors/students) …best traditions in the art of a cappella choir singing… Three of LA's best traditions in the art of choir singing share the stage for the first time and offer a varied repertoire of sacred music from Europe, Asia and America. This acoustic ritual explores the heritage and vitality of an enduring form highlighting an individual approach to each repertoire and revering the power of harmony and word. The women of San Pedro's own Zhena Folk Chorus offer the soulful sounds of Bulgarian folk singing, marked by spirited rhythms, unusual harmonies, and the riveting beauty of a musical tradition at the crossroads of many cultures. They perform a cappella - songs of celebration, love, and longing, marking the daily and seasonal round of work and play, sweeping listeners from fields ripening in the sun to windswept coastlines. The Philippine Chamber Singers bring interpretations and arrangements to sacred songs and folk material from the Philippines and beyond. Cappella Gloriana, San Diego's premiere a cappella vocal ensemble, is a professional chamber choir devoted to performing and recording the finest choral repertoire that extends from Renaissance to contemporary music. Steven Sturk conducts Capella Gloriana in a program of American sacred music from the 18th to 21st centuries. Produced by Philippine Patrons of the Arts & Zhena Folk Chorus as part of the City of Los Angeles, Cultural Affairs Department Festival Series. In additional to an array of beautiful paintings, there will be live Cuban music featuring Calle 6. Mike Rivero's work, ranging from strong and vibrant to subtle and serene, reflects his Cuban origin as well as years spent in Madrid, New York and California. His recent abstracts blend an array of artistic traditions influenced by Robert Rauschenberg, Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning. The three-dimensional collages create symbiotic relationships between electronic meters, album covers, paint lids and color; a dose of whimsy prevails. 414 W. 6th Street, San Pedro.
