The City of Los Angeles is developing an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy (EECS) to determine how best to utilize the $37 million of federal stimulus money provided to the City from the Department of Energy (DOE) as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The City is looking for public input into how best to use these funds and recommendations on the scope and priorities of the strategy. There will be a total of seven meetings held throughout the City. These will be Open Houses designed to allow members of the public to come and go as they please. At these meetings you will learn about eligible energy efficiency and conservation activities as well as have the opportunity to provide your comments and opinions on how you think your city should spend the grant funding.Block Grant Funding. 2:00pm-4:00pm, Opening Reception of "Flying Machine" at Angels Gate Cultural Center in the Downstairs Gallery, Building A. Flying Machine features two artists, Darren Hostetter and S. Ian Song. Both artists will be featuring selections from their bodies of air and spacecraft-themed work, which although vastly different in media and style, features common elements of repetition, pattern and a general fascination with the aesthetics of flying machines. S. Ian Song's work, a series of mixed media on paper drawings of helicopters generates the shape and form of each aircraft out of a clustering discrete, bound elements. Darren Hostetter's acrylic on aircraft aluminum paintings depict whimsical patterns and formations of military air and spacecraft in a graphic, realistic style. 8:15am. 3rd Annual SCIC 2009 Interfaith Unity Bike-a-Thon. What: The Interfaith Unity Bike-a-Thon brings together people of many different cultures and faiths to enjoy a day of social bicycling and great food. Donations help to support the South Coast Interfaith Council and its supporting organizations. How: This event is a great way to raise funds for your organization/faith community and SCIC!  The Bike-a-thon is a "win-win" event! Prior to the ride, participants are asked to gather sponsorships from individuals willing to make a contribution to his or her organization/faith community and the SCIC (50/50). If a participant wishes that all the funds collected be donated to the SCIC, please have the sponsors make out checks directly to the South Coast Interfaith Council. If the participant is having people donate half to his or her organization/faith community, please have the funds be made payable to the participant's specific organization/faith community. Thereafter, please mail a check payable to the SCIC for 50% of the complete proceeds collected to 759 Linden Ave., Long Beach, CA 90813.  Please remember to designate the check for the '09 Bike-A-Thon. The length of the ride, round-trip, is approximately 25 miles. However, bikers do not have to ride the entire distance if they chose not to. They can choose from slow, moderate, and fast-paced rides and from rides of varying distances. Any bicycle, 2-wheeled or 3-wheeled, is welcome; even unicycles! Come as you are! Helmets are required for riders under 18, and are recommended for all participants.
